Amethyst Starr
Cane Bayou, Louisiana
I know Amethyst through Gina. We headed out to Cane Bayou. It’s across Lake Pontchartrain on a long causeway. The lake, actually an estuary is so long that it looks like it's a road across the ocean. On the north side is a lovely set of bayous, of which Cane Bayou is among them. I liked this little stretch of bayou so much that I might call this little row from the boat ramp to the mouth where it enters Pontchartrain a perfect mile. This little strip of the planet is a perfect example of where the earth gives itself to the ocean and it's neither one nor the other with elements of all.
Amethyst is in New Orleans via Oakland. She plays many instruments but chose her guitar today. She gave a glowing performance under a glowing sun. Then we found some shade and she played more songs. At the end, we rowed out to the edge of the lake and met the saltwater that rocked us in a breeze. She strummed with the waves and hummed along with the wind. Then we returned to land, but very slowly. There was a gentle current, but we tarried to look at flowers and alligators that were wonderful in their very different ways. @astarrmusic
