Anna Moss

Bayou Bienvenu, Louisiana

I know Anna Moss through Gina Leslie.  Anna, the boat and I began what I think might be the most adventurous tinyboatsession yet when I picked her up just outside the French Quarter.   We headed to Bayou Bienvenue and put in at Eddie Pintos Marina and Seafood.  It's part marina, part junkyard, and the NOLA Pedal party barge call it home port.  This is an eclectic boat ramp, to say the least.  I would have said that before the following experience.

Tinyboatsessions are always exciting, though not necessarily dramatic.  Our row into the bayou was lovely.  There was a light breeze and by the time we got to the little chute with the sunken boats, the sun was giving us the most golden of hours for Anna to play.  She’s got one of those voices with power matched with pose and precision that could take a  song anywhere.  Mullet jumped in appreciation and a few gators applauded the performance at a respectful distance.  Dark came quickly and it cooled swiftly without the sun.  I was glad I had extra blankets.

We emerged from the dark under yellow lights that hummed from creosote poles that lined the approach to the boat ramp at Eddy Pintos Marina.  Docking was uneventful.  As I tied up the boat I realized Anna and I were not alone.  There were many chickens.  Twice as many ducks.  A cat, maybe two sat nonchalantly and without malice next to the birds.  Old Eddy Pinto had a farm it seemed, and that farm apparently came out after dark.  I turned to Anna to make a comment about the menagerie.  She stiffened.  Following her gaze I saw that I had missed one of the cutters. There was a boar bigger than a fifty-five-gallon drum eating out of a rusty fifty-five-gallon drum so it was easy to make that comparison.  Now this pig was country fair big but bristly.  Nothing about it pink and cute.   I turned to her, ‘You've seen all the animals.” I said.

I told Anna to get in the car first while I got the boat ready.  It seemed more interested in the trash than us but a 400 lb beast of any kind was worth giving a wide berth.
