Ben Doerr
Season 1 & Season 3 (New Zealand)
I know Ben Doerr through my buddy Hart. Hart and I rowed together in college. He moved away for fifteen years. He moved back to Bainbridge Island. That place already had many of my friends. He's gregarious and got into sailing. On Bainbridge, that means he quickly made friends with Ben Doerr of Sail Bainbridge. I go over often to sail with Hart and quickly met Ben. Ben is not just a professional sailor, he's the founder and frontman of St. Paul de Vence. Below are some of his thoughts from March of 2020.
Listen to St. Paul De Vence.
Sail with Ben at Sail Bainbridge.
I’m a father, husband, sailor, musician, adventure seeker. I’m now also a co-teacher. But more importantly, my sailing business is at a total standstill, during the time we would typically be ramping up. We live aboard TOPAZ, our beloved 1964 Ed Monk design wooden power-cruiser. Nene the dory was named after my grandfather. His name was Fortune from his childhood in Nice where they affectionately called him Nene. My ten-year-old daughter held the camera and rowed me around.
We’ve now gone north to the San Juan Islands on our Sail Bainbridge workhorse, the good ship TRUE. We’re fully isolated, sailing and making shore excursions onto island state parks where we can avoid any other humans. Though we still brought our sweet rowboat, NENÉ. -Ben Doerr
Season 3 Update: Ben’s wife is from New Zealand, and they spent several months there during 2020. Ben's never far from water or music and found a boat and his guitar and send tinyboatsession Season 3 a song from the land of Kiwis." —Jordan and Clarabelle
