Emily Afton
Marina Del Rey, Los Angeles
I know Emily Afton through Carlie Armstrong. Carlie used to work for Airbnb managing the Airbnb Experiences in Seattle. I have an experience with my rowboat, CLARABELLE. It’s a 3-hour tour in Seattle called ‘Rowing Urban Waterways.’ It’s not much of a stretch to say that Tinyboatsession is an offshoot of this tour. In addition to rowing the ocean and the Mississippi twice, I've also hosted 300+ rows. Carlie changed jobs and moved to LA. When I knew I was heading to Tinseltown I reached out to see if she knew someone who wanted to sing a song in a tinyboat.
Carlie knew not one, but two Emilys that wanted to sing a song in a tinyboat. The timing worked out that they came out in the boat at the same time. Emily Afton is based out Oakland, San Diego and LA. If you watch CW’s Batwoman you might have heard her song ‘The Veil’ Which she also played for the Francisco Women's March, with an audience of 40k people. Another one of her songs ‘Lost’ was on the show Rivendale.
Having an extra person in CLARABELLE the tiny boat is wonderful. Tit means they get to see how special this is in person, and somehow that makes it seem a bit more real–because if I said I'd filmed two Emilys in front of a boat named EMILY you might think I’d spent too much time in the sun. This is true, I have spent too much time in the sun.
The song they sang together in front of the boat was EMILY SEA. This turned out to be the first time they collaborated together. Tinyboatsession magic at it again. Her next song was just as great, and she sang next to a group of folks doing yoga on some paddle boards. Not sure that is magic, but it sure is tinyboatsession in Marina Del Rey.
