I know Gus through Madeleine. The two of them live on Vashon Island and share a liking for at least two time-intensive hobbies: running enormous distances and playing music. Turns out Gus and I also share some similarities, having both went to high school in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Over the last twenty years of living in the Puget Sound and traveling to New Mexico to visit family, I’ve noticed that there is a fair amount of people that move between the arid hot and yellow mile high desert and the damp greens and blues of Puget Sound. I’m not sure why this is, or perhaps it’s just something I’m subconsciously choosing to notice. Whatever it is, it’s always nice to talk about green chili with a stranger. It keeps them from being a stranger for long.
The day before I recorded with Gus, CLARABELLE, the cute little rowboat, and I rowed up from Point Defiance the day before and slept on the deck of Madeline’s sailboat IKI’s deck. In the morning, Madeleine cooked some biscuits and gravy. Gus arrived and over coffee we all put our heads together to turn CLARABELLE and IKI into a perfect little tinyboatsession stage. -Jordan and Clarabelle
