I know Kelsey because she was on the list of musicians Halley Greg suggested I reach out to. We had a lot of weather to dodge this fall, and Kelsey told me she had not played in front of anyone in a while. She needed time to practice.
The rain came hard this fall. Some days, it seemed so settled in its ways that it might never stop, and we rescheduled three times. This time of year, I tell myself how lucky I am to live in a place with such life giving rain, but after weeks and ever-shortening days, it's hard to believe it. Then a sunny day comes. The land dries quickly and everything seems clean. An early fall day after a long rain in the Pacific Northwest might be the prettiest gown in her closet. Red and yellow leaves emerging from the green of summer, still plump from august and living out boldly before they fall.
Fortune favored all these variables and on a slightly crisp day, clear and cloudless enough to see the big mountain that looks over us, we met at mount baker and rowed to Seward Park. This was the first tinyboatsession where I used the anchor to hold the boat’s position. The rocking and rolling of a boat secured adds a gentle syncopation to Kelsey’s guitar and voice. On the way back, we rowed close to shore and Kelsey sang to the people walking along the lake shore. -Jordan & Clarabelle
