Lizz Hodgin Weihrauch

Santa Cruz Harbor

I know Lizz through Arlee Leonard.  Liz is one of Arlee's many musician contacts from around the country.  Lizz is a professional opera and theater performer who has performed in NYC, San Francisco, and beyond.  For the last 27 years, she's been teaching early childhood music through ‘Musicalme.’ They use play between parents and children to teach music.

Lizz came along with her son, Daniel, and their friend Dana on a sparkling day in the Santa Cruz Harbor.  Her passion for teaching music to children is evident in every fiber of her. She sang a song called “All the Children” which is a song that calls for one thing that should be so simple, that all children have the right to live in peace in this world.  I can't be the only one who wonders why humans, with all the capacity for love that we have, still can't figure that part out.  It was as true now as it was when I filmed her in the Spring of 2022.

Her next song was ‘Lukey’s Boat’, a lighthearted Newfoundland shanty that she sang and taught to me, Daniel, and Dana.

Since I have a boat, going out on the water is always an option. Like a lot of things, we specialize in or have the tools it's easy to forget how special it is.  Tinyboatsession makes it impossible to forget.  Even for folks that get out on the water regularly, Clarabelle’s a unique boat, and I’d say most folks don't get a chance to get rowed around. That means that every time I'm in the water I get to be delighted all over again.  Not by what I see, but by what I see through their eyes.   We saw some birds, old boats, and new boats and didn't have to row too far or get far from the shore, but we had a lot of laughter exploring the harbor together.
