I met Summer through her cousin, Army. Years ago Army came to Seattle to do some casting for characters for a show. We rowed on a blustery winter day on Puget Sound and having a fair amount of laughs. Though I didn’t get cast, we stayed in touch. Army is based in San Pedro, just south of LA on a stretch of coast falling into the sea. Being in the entertainment industry, I was pretty sure she might know someone who might want to sing in a tinyboat. Turns out my hunch was right. It was her cousin, SummerXO. She’s an indie-pop singer based out of LA but has some west Virginia rural roots. Though it was March, she showed up in a bright pink dress. I suppose that’s the amazing thing about Southern California. Winter there is the perfect summer. She brought her Ukilalie and sang an original of hers and Mr. Roger’s song. -Jordan and Clarabelle
