I met Bart Miali through my friend Victoria. Years ago, she found a copy of my book, and later, she went on one of my rowing tours. She lives in SoCal and introduced me to her buddies Bart and Joel. Bart played music many years ago but had not played for anyone but himself for a while. In the intervening years, he’d made a career out of selling wine.
He invited me to go fishing with him on Lake Cachuma, north of Santa Barbara. He brought his guitar. Bart rented a little tin boat and had already caught a fish by the time I showed up. Like many reservoirs, former valleys and ravines make for hidden arms where we found cover from the wind. We talked fishing and music, and then Bart sang a song about a little bug trying to make it in this big old world, and I teared up a bit. Then he gave a wine recommendation. Jordan & Clarabelle
