Helyn Rain

Ladybird Lake, Austin, Texas

I know Helyn Rain from Lyd Marie.  She’s a musician and an actress.  After our tinyboatsession, she was heading to do Austin’s Shakespeare in the Park as Helena in A Midsummers Night’s Dream.  We didn’t have to rush, but did have to be mindful of curtain call.

We cruised around Ladybird Lake and found a few inlets here and there but settled in the middle of the lake with the backdrop of the bridges and skyscrapers around the green edges of the lake. Helyn sang a song about Austin in the spring. Though I’d only been in the area a few days it seemed true to me. She had spent time in NYC and after that several years doing some van life out on the west coast and spent some time in LA.  Her next song was about LA.  She wrote it in Echo Park.  Lyd Marie sang backup.

Something about the Texas songs seemed to speak of going west.  The day before Melissa Carper had spoken of New Mexico in her music.   I’d be there shortly doing tinyboatsessions on the Rio Grande.  Helyn’s song suggested even further west to LA, and it seemed like artists were already starting to line up there too.
