Lyd Marie

Ladybird Lake, Austin, Texas

I know Lyd Marie from Anna Moss.  She and her friend Helyn Rain met me at the edge of Lady Bird Lake in Austen, Texas.  The heat of the spring day was reaching its crescendo and the water was alive with paddleboards, kayaks, and canoes.  Folks without boats cooled their toes on the edge of the shore.  Beyond the shore the cafes were full

I’d never been to the city before.  From this long skinny reservoir of Ladybird Lake Austin and its shiny new skyscrapers reminded me of that approach to the Emerald City in ‘The Wizard of Oz.’

Lyd Marie is a multi-disciplinary artist.  In addition to playing several instruments, she writes and produces songs and even sews and designs clothing.  I later found out she’d spent some tin in Senengal studying the talking drum there.  I wish I’d known that at the time.  I’d spent some time there a while back.  I was there planning a trip in a tiny rowboat across the sea and I found myself similarly moved by the people and place. It would have been interesting to share our experiences.

That’s the only melancholic experience about tinyboatsession.  For the most part, these are quick.  Like a really good book, I’m left with a feeling of satisfaction tempered by a sense of loss, a  wish that I could get to know these folks a little better.  So it made sense that one of Lyd Marie's songs was ‘Never Enough Time.” Instagram: @lydmariemusic
