Sandy Lam

I met Sandy through the boating world in Seattle at The Center for Woodenboats. She was the first tinyboatsession. I asked her to come and play in the boat to see if this idea was as lovely as I thought it would be. March of 2020 was such a profound time that I asked each of the people that participated to share their thoughts along with the songs. All of Sandy’s songs were collected in March of 2020. She also led to several other tinyboatsession folks: Nora, Kate, and Jonathan. You can find her @sparkle.flowers on IG and her work at The Center for Wooden boats.

This is a very uncertain time for everyone, nearly everyone I know has been laid off or furloughed and The Center for Wooden Boats is no exception. So many small nonprofits or businesses have had to abruptly stop operating and we just don’t know what is going to happen. In times like this, it is more important than ever to come together as a community. Even though we technically don’t work for CWB anymore, my colleagues and I are still doing the work to figure out how to keep the organization alive through all this.
My hope is that everyone will look at what really matters to them, share gratitude and focus on what they have. I think Mother Earth has been sending cries for help in recent years, and this seems an extension of it. Maybe people will finally see that it is possible for us to create ways to reverse climate change. It’s been a terrible way to force us to change our habits, but if it doesn’t challenge you it won’t change you. We are all capable of doing our part to save our environment and build meaningful connections with people.”
